    Forgiveness: Finding Freedom in Christ

Daily Divine ConnectDecember 30, 20256 min read

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

    — Colossians 3:13

Forgiveness is at the heart of the Gospel. Without it, we remain bound by the chains of guilt, bitterness, and resentment. With it, we experience the freedom Christ died to give us.

    The Foundation: We Are Forgiven

Before we can extend forgiveness to others, we must grasp the magnitude of what God has done for us.

Ephesians 1:7 declares, "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace."

We who deserved judgment have received mercy. We who were enemies have been made children. This is the foundation of all forgiveness.

    The Challenge: Forgiving Others

Jesus taught us to pray, "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" (Matthew 6:12). Our forgiveness of others is connected to our understanding of our own forgiveness.

    Forgiveness is...

  1. A choice, not a feeling
  2. A process, not always a one-time event
  3. Releasing the other person to God
  4. Freedom for ourselves

    Forgiveness is NOT...

    - Saying what happened was okay

  5. Forgetting the offense
  6. Necessarily restoring trust
  7. Always reconciling the relationship

    Steps Toward Forgiveness

    1. Acknowledge the Hurt

Don't minimize or deny your pain. Bring it honestly before God.

    2. Choose to Forgive

Make a decision of the will, even when emotions resist. Say it out loud: "I choose to forgive [name] for [offense]."

    3. Release to God

Trust God to be the righteous judge. Vengeance belongs to Him (Romans 12:19).

    4. Pray for the Offender

This is hard but powerful. Prayer softens our hearts and releases bitterness.

    A Prayer for Forgiveness

Lord, thank You for forgiving all my sins through Jesus. Help me to extend that same grace to those who have hurt me. Free me from bitterness and resentment. I choose to forgive, trusting You with the outcome. Amen.

Forgiveness may be the hardest thing we're asked to do—and the most liberating. Step into freedom today.
